Introduction to the Division

Financial Services 

Our leading financial services practice supports clients across the industry, including wealth and asset management, private equity, insurance, consumer credit and payment services. We have been a trusted adviser to the UK insurance industry for over 150 years and have one of the largest and most experienced teams of insurance experts within the accountancy profession. Established initially as a Lloyd’s practice, our clients now span the entire insurance market – from Lloyd’s syndicates and managing agents to insurance companies, brokers and MGAs.

We have one of the largest financial service audit teams outside of the Big 4 with over 100 audit partners and staff dedicated to supporting the sector. We offer relevant and practical advice to guide and enable our clients to maintain rigorous controls, manage risks and achieve business growth.

We act for many platform-based businesses, including wealth, funds and investment management companies. Our clients include listed businesses and those backed by private equity.

Responsibilities

As a CASS Audit Assistant Manager you will work on a variety of audit assignments and this will involve:
 
Prior to the assignment:

  • Attend pre-assignment discussions with the audit team.
  •  Preparing the risk assessment and completion of the planning section. 
  • Understand the objectives of each assignment including the budget requirements.  

During the assignment the Audit Assistant Manager will be expected to:

  • Be responsible for allocating work to junior members of the audit team
  • Provide on the job training to junior members of the firm, review their work and provide feedback 
  • Ensure that the work undertaken on site is in accordance with the approved plan and budget
  • Advise the manager of any developments that may lead to a change in strategy or significant breaches as they arise
  • Suggest logical solutions to problems
  • Be responsible for setting out the points for partner and breaches
  • Drafting the CASS report and discussing breaches identified with management  
  • Clear manager and partner review points and follow up any outstanding queries
  • Drafting the audit findings report and discussing the findings with management
  • Respond to all client queries and concerns in an efficient and professional manner, often dealing directly with senior management
  • Provide a detailed analysis of time charged on every assignment to facilitate billing and future planning
Person Specification

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • ACCA/ACA, or equivalent, qualified
  • CASS audit experience required, particularly CASS 6 and 7
  • Performance of CASS audits  in compliance with the CASS Assurance Standard from the planning process through to completion, reporting directly to manager and engagement partner 
  • Documentation and assessment of internal CASS control procedures.
  • Training, supervision and coordination of junior team members
  • Experience of client liaison from the planning stage up to point of audit completion, identifying opportunities to provide added value

IT Skills

  • Excel and Word – intermediate;
  • Experience of navigating client platforms (ie MT4) is preferred but not essential;
  • Access – basic; and
  • PowerPoint – basic.
